A Young Lady Stops Drinking, Suffers Through Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Decides To Get Alcohol Treatment

Kayla is a twenty-six-year-old legal assistant who has been consuming alcohol in an excessive and irresponsible manner since she and her fiancee decided to discontinue their relationship. In fact, for the past four months she has been drinking almost a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking a number shots all through the day. In a word, Kayla has been drinking so abusively that it's a miracle that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.

After feeling disheartened because she was starting to ignore her health, Kayla finally told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to stop the self pity party, that it's time to stop the abusive and hazardous drinking, and time to make a new start with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 8:30 AM, she decided to quit drinking cold turkey.

When she called her best friend and told her that she had stopped drinking and that after a few hours she without any warning started to experience flu-like symptoms, Tina, her best friend, told Kayla to call her physician and explain what she was experiencing.

Her healthcare professional informed her that she may be suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a neighbor or relative drive her to the emergency room as soon as possible. Apparently her physician had called ahead and told the emergency room personnel to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two ER employees who immediately asked her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.

A physician gave her some medications to address her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some meds to help get rid of the alcohol that was still in her circulation system. After two or three hours, Kayla was removed from the emergency room and transported to the recovery room.

After she was in recovery for around an hour, Doctor Arndt, an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency specialist, came to see her. He took quite a bit of time and explained that Kayla had experienced alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she stopped drinking because she had become dependent on alcohol.

He then mentioned the fact that with heavy drinking on an everyday basis, the person's brain little by little adjusts to the alcohol in order to function in a "normal" way. When the drinker then abruptly abstains from consuming alcohol, as one would expect, the brain responds by generating alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Moreover, her doctor also explained the various alcoholism symptoms that a person who is alcohol dependent commonly suffers through as the disease progresses.

Fortunately for Kayla, it was discovered that she was in the earliest stage of alcoholism and, as a result, she was given a good diagnosis for a total recovery if she receives the alcohol treatment she needs.

Kayla told the physician that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to reclaim her health. She also stated that she has a first-rate hospitalization policy that will more likely than not pay for most of the treatment costs. It was clear to see that Kayla was quite happy with her optimistic medical prognosis and felt at ease knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol addiction treatment she needs so that she can start on the road to recovery.
